Calgary Youth Exploration Fair provides youth with tools and knowledge to explore Calgary’s changing job market

Youth in Calgary will get the unique opportunity to explore a variety of careers and acquire first-hand knowledge about Calgary’s changing job market at City Hall on Saturday, June 17, 2017. The Youth Career Exploration Fair, hosted by the Mayor’s Youth Council and Calgary Economic Development, will feature keynote presentations and panel discussions by local entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and business leaders.

“By helping our youth to explore their potential and all the many different careers they could have, we’re making an investment in a more diverse future economy”, says Calgary Mayor Nenshi. “Thanks to the amazing young people in the Mayor’s Youth Council and my colleagues in Calgary Economic Development for making this event a reality.”

Providing youth with the resources and tools they need to make decisions about their career path is a critical need the Youth Career Exploration Fair hopes to fill. With the fast pace of change in today’s economy, there are emerging jobs in new industries, particularly in Calgary, that many youth may not even know exist today.

The keynote speech will be delivered by James Boettcher, Chief Idea Officer & CEO of Calgary’s community-driven, artisan gelato company. Award-winning entrepreneur and business leader Craig Elias will lead a panel discussion on entrepreneurship. There will also be industry panel sessions on the topics of agribusiness, high tech, energy and renewables, as well as an “Innovation Alley,” showcasing cutting-edge technology from local companies.

The Mayor’s Youth Council is an initiative made possible by Youth Central.
