Winter is hitting Canada’s heartland hard, with Calgary and other provinces bracing for icy conditions.

Environment Canada reports a frigid, windy weather system moving from the Northwest Territories through Alberta and Saskatchewan into southern Manitoba. Northern regions could experience windchills as low as -40 °C, while snowfall totals are expected to reach 25 to 35 cm, accompanied by winds gusting up to 80 km/h.

For Calgary, 660 NewsRadio meteorologist Michael Kuss warns that windchill could reach -40 °C Wednesday morning, rising to -21 °C in the afternoon but feeling closer to -30 °C. Light snow is forecast to begin before temperatures plunge to -25 °C overnight.
