The RED FM News Team sources Canadian and international news every day, producing hourly news bulletins in Hindi and Punjabi.

The RED FM Calgary News Team is comprised of the following members:


Rishi Nagar

Rishi was born in the village of Shankar, in Punjab, India. He has a BA in Economics and Sanskrit. Rishi also has a Master’s degree in English Literature as well as a Bachelors of Education.

Before coming to Canada, Rishi was the Principal of Arya College for Women, Chief Reporter and Principal Correspondent for the Dainik Jagran, National Hindi Newspaper, Editor of the Hindi Magazine, the Pratham Impact, and worked at other publications and schools along his professional journey.

In 2009, Rishi and his family immigrated to Canada.

Shortly after arriving, Rishi joined 93.1 RED FM as a part time News Reader in 2010. Rishi was quickly began covering a larger variety of duties including on-air hosting at the station. In 2013, RED FM launched a sister station in Calgary, Alberta. Rishi was promoted to News Director and Host, helping to launch the new station. “It was a great promotion, a new challenge and a great opportunity as well. I have been serving this location since that time.”


Gurbachan Brar

Was born in 1953 and brought up in Punjab and had his rudimentary education at the village of Lande, in the Moga district of Punjab. Raised in a rural background, Gurbachan had an opportunity to gain his Bachelor of Science degree from Brijindera College, Faridkot and completed his Masters Degree in political science from Punjabi University, Patiala.

Gurbachan worked as a science teacher and district Guidance Councillor, in the Punjab Education Department. During those years he simultaneously contributed as a host for Yuv Vani (a program for youth) on All India Radio, Jalandhar.

Gurbachan immigrated to Canada in 2007, working at a variety of places, getting first-hand experience in the Canadian way of Life. As a result, Gurbachan believes that he’s gained a broader perspective on Canadian and Geo Politics, and those experiences have become a treasure trove and great source of inspiration working as a radio broadcaster. Gurbachan believes that “Radio provides me with an opportunity to not only connect with a large number of listeners, but also gives me the satisfaction that I am giving back to society and keeping them informed and updated about what’s happening around them.”


Maninder Garewal

Maninder’s journey as a broadcaster began during her university days doing news bulletins for a Montreal based radio station. After completing a Post-Graduate in Journalism & Mass Communication, she began teaching as an assistant professor. Maninder taught in various institutes for 7 years, all the while keeping the writer and broadcaster in her alive by working with All India Radio Jalandhar and contributing as a column writer for Punjabi Tribune.
Maninder immigrated to Canada in 2013 and soon began working with Red FM Calgary. Maninder’s Red FM journey started as the host of the show “Red Geet Mala”, as well as a News Reader and Creative Writer, but her heart was always in the news room. “News is what she always wanted to do fulltime.”


Ramanjit Sidhu

Ramanjit was born into a family of journalists and writers, he is privileged to bequeath the rich heritage which has helped him survive in the world of printed media and now on the air waves.
Before acquiring his master’s degree in Journalism, Ramanjit had a short stint at The Indian Express, working as a young reporter, where he got a real taste of journalism. After completing his degree, he worked at The Tribune and later in 2010, joined Hindustan Times.

After moving to Canada, Ramanjit joined RED FM as a news reporter and soon began hosting shows as well. Raman is currently also the host of “The Sunday Show” every Sunday from 4-6 pm. You can also listen to Raman every Tuesday and Wednesday, from 7-8 pm on “The Evening Show”, where he discusses current affairs of the day and analyses news stories that matter.
