RED GEET MALA / Monday – Friday 11AM-1PM / Hosted by Shaveei
We finally had an opportunity to sit down with RED FM’s newest host Shaveei. The following is our conversation:
Tell us about yourself. What’s your background?
When I was in grade 2, I participated in a school singing competition and won! In fact, for the next 4 years, I kept winning the “Best Singer” award. I then decided to join a local theatre and music group which allowed me to act in many Punjabi, Hindi, English and Sanskrit plays.
It was a pretty spectacular time as I was lucky enough to win the “Best Actor Award” for 3 years in a row in school as well!
You sound like you were a talented kid! Did you continue on into your teenage years as well?
Absolutely! When I was 16, I formed my own Music band, it was a blast!
Around that time while I was in Chandigarh, I got into theatre and radio. I worked with the TAAL internet radio station (New Zealand channel) as a radio jockey. I also worked with A.I.R, VIGYAPAN GROUP as a voice artist in children animated series.
You were a busy guy! Tell us more about your radio experience in India.
In Chandigarh I used to work at “94.3 MY FM” as an OB Jockey (Outdoor Broadcast), then I worked as a Drive time presenter and producer.
I was hired as the head the Radio Management Department at the MAD arts Jaspal Bhatti Film Institute and at The Academy of broadcasting, where I got a chance to train Radio hosts from all over India.
Eventually I came to Canada and at first I worked with DesPardes Radio 5.30 AM in Toronto. I then came to Calgary and started working here at RED FM. I enjoy every bit of the broadcast business!
Outside of RED FM, do you have any hobbies or passions?
I am very passionate about Acting and Singing. I recently released my first music single “Jane tu kaha” and I am working on a few more upcoming Projects.
I also have a lot of passion for fashion, I have a Fashion design degree from Italy and INIFD in India.
While still in Toronto, I worked as a fashion stylist and have a post-graduation degree in Media and Fashion arts from Humber collage.
