Sounds of Croatia – Saturdays 9 – 11am

redfm_sounds-of-croatia-hostsWho are you guys and where are you from?

My name is Alen Capo, I am a host on the Sounds of Croatia radio program, originally I am from Durdenovac, Croatia. I immigrated to Canada in 1996.

My name is Davorka Tomic and I am the second member of the team. I have been in Canada for 21 years. My birthplace is the city of Mostar, state Bosnia and Herzegovina. Most of my work experience is related to banking and financial industry.

How did you guys end up in Calgary?

I was first introduced to Calgary during the 1988 Winter Olympic Games via Television and thought what a beautiful and vibrant city. Little did I know that only a few years later I would meet my future wife who was visiting Croatia and was from Calgary and as they say, the rest is history.

Same as Alen said, first time I heard for Calgary was when Olympic Games were in Sarajevo, then they introduced Calgary as the host of next Olympic Games. Our first destination in Canada was Red Deer, then after 4 months we moved to Calgary because everyone said that this city is giving much more opportunities, especially for newcomers to Canada.

What is your media background?

Alen has always had a keen interest in music and media, shortly after his arrival in Calgary Alen volunteered for the Croatian Radio Program at CJSW where he was a member for the approx. 15Years.

Davorka has a lot of experience in public speaking and presentations. In her home city of Mostar, she helped her colleges, who worked on local radio program, by doing some reports, writing stories etc. Then here in Calgary, same as Alen, Davorka volunteered for the Croatian Radio Program at CJSW for 2 years.

What can we expect to hear on your show every week?

Since we are on early each Saturday morning from 9-11am, we like to keep our show lively, energetic and enlightening. We have a large landscape of individuals who listen to us in Calgary and all over the world via internet, therefore we enjoy showcasing new artists with new music as well as our seasoned artists. We also have special guests from the Croatian community who share their talents on air with us and our listeners. We also like to keep our listeners informed of any special festivities within the Croatian Community and in Calgary.

We enjoy the feedback and interaction our listeners have with us and look forward to sharing each Saturday morning with them.
