The Best Classic and Contemporary Punjabi Music On Sur Punjab De
Weekdays 3-5 pm with Jagpreet Shergill
We had the opportunity to speak with the host of Sur Punjab De, Jagpreet Shergill to ask him about himself and about his show.
Firstly Japgreet, can you tell us where you were born and when you came to Canada?
I was born in Jalandhar, Punjab and came to Canada in 2003.
Why did you come to Calgary?
I already had some family here as well as some friends so Calgary seemed like a great option.
Can you tell us some of your favorite things about Calgary?
I love the weather. Summers in Calgary are great and honestly, I really like snow over the winter.
Do you have any hobbies?
I always enjoy photography, driving, cooking and of course music.
You like to cook? What do you like to cook?
I love to cook Shahi Paneer, that’s my specialty.
Do you cook any Canadian dishes?
Not really (laughs!)
What is your media background?
I worked at 94.7 FM hosting a Punjabi music and talk show for 2 years. I was also a host at Sur Sangam for 10 years. I joined RED FM on day 1 and was here for the launch, in fact Sur Punjab De was the very first “regularly scheduled show” to take place that day immediately following the opening ceremonies.
What does Sur Punjab De offer your listeners?
Always a great variety of Punjabi music, especially the “hard to find” favorites. Interviews with local and international artists and I love explaining songs and their meanings during the show.
Do you have anything that you would like to add in closing?
Believe in yourself, follow your heart and good things will come.
