Author Sohan Singh Pooni talk about Saheed Bhai Mewa Singh. Mewa Singh murdered a Canadian immigration inspector, W. C. Hopkinson, a political act of violence for which he was executed. Over a century after Ghadar Party member Bhai Mewa Singh Lopoke, one of the founders of Khalsa Diwan Society which built a gurdwara in North America , was hanged in New Westminster, British Columbia, the same city would now observe January 11 as ‘Bhai Mewa Singh Day’. Bhai Mewa Singh was hanged on January 11, 1915, and was the first Sikh and Ghadarite to be hanged in Canada.
