Boating Advisory Lifted on Bow River, Caution Still Advised

June 24, 2025

REDFM NEWS DESK

Calgary, Alberta – The Calgary Fire Department has lifted the boating advisory for the Bow River, effective immediately, following improved river conditions and reduced flow rates. The advisory, originally issued on Sunday, June 22, was prompted by high water levels due to seasonal runoff.

Flow rates on both the Bow and Elbow Rivers have decreased, allowing for the safe resumption of recreational activities. However, officials warn that water temperatures remain cold and visibility is still limited due to turbidity. Debris may also still be present in the water.

Residents are urged to remain cautious while enjoying Calgary’s waterways, as conditions can change quickly—especially during thunderstorms that can cause sudden spikes in river flow.

The Calgary Fire Department and its Aquatics Team will continue to monitor and patrol local rivers. Boaters are reminded that safety regulations remain in place. All users must wear lifejackets, carry required equipment, and avoid alcohol or other intoxicants while on the water.
