REDFM Newsroom:
Calgary police are investigating a violent assault in Bowness on Canada Day that has left a man with serious, life-altering injuries.
Officers were called to the 6400 block of Bowness Road N.W. just before midnight on July 1 after reports of an unconscious man with a head wound on the sidewalk. The victim was initially taken to hospital in stable condition, but police say his condition has since worsened and he now remains in hospital with serious, life-altering injuries.
According to investigators, the victim was walking east on the south sidewalk in the 6400 block when he was chased by two men who knocked him to the ground. Police say the suspects continued the assault using an unknown object, repeatedly kicking and striking the victim in the head until he lost consciousness.
After the attack, the two suspects fled west along Bowness Road. Moments later, police say a black GMC truck passed the scene. The driver called 911 but did not remain until officers arrived, and police are hoping to speak with that individual.
Officers are also asking for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area around the time of the assault to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.calgarycrimestoppers.org.
Police say they remain committed to finding those responsible and ensuring the safety of the Bowness community.
