A 60-year-old man has died after being struck by a dump truck in southwest Calgary on Friday morning. According to police, the male cyclist was riding in the bike lane at the intersection of 26 Ave and 32 St S.W. The truck was making a right turn onto 32 Street when it hit the cyclist. “The cyclist unfortunately ended up underneath the trailer,” says Acting Sgt. Dan Jordens with the Calgary Police Service.
The cyclist was rushed to Foothills Hospital with critical injuries but later passed away from his injuries. The driver of the dump truck remained at the scene and cooperated with police. The area was shut down for several hours as the Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“We have confirmed that video footage exists, which we expect to receive tomorrow, and this will assist with the investigation,” said Jordens.
