A Calgary-based non-profit is expanding its support for vulnerable women and girls with the launch of a new transitional housing and community space in the city’s southwest.
The Safe Haven Foundation officially opened the Safe Haven Community Hub and Haven Harbour Residences this week—an initiative aimed at helping young women at risk of homelessness build stable and empowered futures.
“This is a space built with care, rooted in belonging, and designed to grow futures,” said Krystyna Lloyd, CEO of Safe Haven Foundation, during Wednesday’s opening ceremony.
The new facility combines supportive housing with a welcoming social hub. It offers a range of services including wellness workshops, life skills coaching, Indigenous-led healing circles, and shared community meals. The residences—both shared and independent—are specifically designed for young women transitioning from other Safe Haven programs.
Julia Hayter, NDP MLA for Calgary-Edgemont and the provincial shadow minister for the status of women, praised the project for its potential to transform lives.
“This is going to strengthen our families, rebuild natural supports, and create future leaders here in Alberta—leaders equipped with the confidence and tools to thrive,” she said.
The opening marks a significant step forward in Safe Haven Foundation’s mission to prevent homelessness among vulnerable youth and empower them to build brighter, independent futures.
