Woman arrested in Calgary after police find guns, Fentanyl, and suspected stolen property

Calgary police arrested a woman early Monday morning, August 11, 2025, after finding her asleep in a suspicious vehicle in the southeast community of Prestwick.

Officers were called around 3:40 a.m. following reports of a suspicious car driving in the 1100 block of Prestwick Close SE. Police located a vehicle with mismatched license plates and found a woman asleep in the back seat. She was taken into custody after officers discovered she was violating conditions from a previous release.

A search of the vehicle turned up a significant quantity of drugs and weapons, including:

  • A Churchill shotgun with ammunition
  • A replica handgun
  • A conducted energy weapon
  • Approximately 147.5 grams of fentanyl
  • Drug trafficking paraphernalia
  • Multiple cellphones
  • Several suspected stolen items

The woman, identified as 26-year-old Samara Maria Astalnok, is now facing 13 charges. These include possession of prohibited and unlicensed weapons, careless storage of a firearm, tampering with a firearm’s serial number, failure to comply with a release order, and four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Astalnok is scheduled to appear in court on August 27.
