The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and Canada Post are set to resume negotiations on Wednesday after a delay in mediated bargaining sessions.

CUPW, which represents approximately 55,000 postal workers, requested the meeting through federal mediators. The union said the session will be used to address questions Canada Post raised after reviewing CUPW’s comprehensive proposals submitted on August 20.

“During the time away from the bargaining table, Canada Post should have been revising their proposals to reflect our two submitted offers,” the union said in a statement.

CUPW also confirmed that its national ban on overtime remains in place.

This meeting follows two previously scheduled sessions that were cancelled. According to the union, Canada Post postponed those talks, citing the need for additional time to evaluate the union’s latest proposals.

Earlier this month, CUPW members overwhelmingly rejected Canada Post’s most recent offer, arguing it failed to meet workers’ needs.

On Tuesday, Canada Post reported a $407 million pre-tax loss for its second quarter, attributing part of the decline to reduced parcel volumes during ongoing labour uncertainty.
