Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued a warning against swimming in The Lake at Heritage Pointe, located just south of Calgary, after tests revealed elevated levels of fecal bacteria in the water.

According to the advisory released Thursday, the contamination was detected at the main beach area, and current bacteria levels pose a risk of gastrointestinal illness if the water is ingested. AHS also warns that exposure could lead to skin, ear, and eye infections.

The health authority will continue to monitor water quality, and the advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve.
