A new national poll reveals that 44 per cent of Canadians support scrapping the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, as the country continues to face high unemployment—particularly among young people.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has recently backed eliminating the program, framing it as a response to rising joblessness among youth.
The online survey, conducted by Abacus Data, found stronger support for ending the program among younger Canadians, with more than half of respondents aged 30 to 44 in favour, and 48 per cent support among those aged 18 to 29.
Regionally, the Prairie provinces showed the highest support, while Québec and Atlantic Canada showed the least.
Despite the public opinion shift, Prime Minister Mark Carney ruled out axing the program last week, stating it remains part of a broader review of Canada’s immigration policies.
Due to the nature of the online poll, the Canadian Research Insights Council notes it cannot be assigned a margin of error, as the survey did not use a random sample.
