In response to ongoing labour action at Canada Post, the Alberta government has implemented a contingency plan to ensure essential provincial mail continues to reach Albertans.

Beginning Wednesday, residents can drop off and collect critical government mail at designated provincial offices across Alberta. The government has confirmed that no postage is required for mail handled through this temporary system.

Albertans expecting government correspondence will be notified by phone or email with details on where and when to pick up or drop off their mail. Officials stress that the province will never request personal information over the phone or ask recipients to click on links in emails.

Meanwhile, non-essential mail will be held by the issuing departments until regular mail service resumes.

To minimize disruptions to important payments, several departments are participating in a Canada Post program that continues to deliver socio-economic cheques once a month during the strike.

The government is also encouraging Albertans to consider signing up for direct deposit, which remains unaffected by the postal service issues. For more information, residents should contact the department that issues their payments.
