Canada and India have taken a major step toward rebuilding and strengthening their bilateral relationship. Following a series of diplomatic engagements this year, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand and India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar issued a joint statement in New Delhi, reaffirming their commitment to a “constructive and balanced partnership.”
The renewed engagement follows the meeting between Prime Ministers of both nations at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, where they agreed to reset ties based on mutual respect and shared democratic values. Recent milestones include the reinstatement of High Commissioners, discussions on security cooperation, and new dialogues on trade and energy.
A New Roadmap for Canada–India Relations has been finalized, focusing on key areas such as trade, climate action, energy, science and technology, agriculture, and education. Both countries emphasized boosting economic cooperation, with bilateral trade reaching $23.66 billion in 2024. Plans are underway to resume the Canada–India CEO Forum in early 2026 and launch the Critical Minerals Annual Dialogue in Toronto next March.
The ministers also pledged closer collaboration on clean energy, AI innovation, and academic exchanges, while reaffirming commitments to global stability and sustainability.
Both sides agreed that rebuilding trust and deepening cooperation will help create resilient supply chains, support sustainable growth, and strengthen the long-standing people-to-people ties that form the foundation of Canada–India relations.
