A single dollar might not buy much these days — except, in Alberta, nearly a litre of gasoline.
Gas prices in the province have fallen to their lowest levels since 2021, averaging $1.20 per litre, with some stations selling regular fuel for as little as $1.01, according to data from GasBuddy.
“Alberta is seeing the largest declines of all provinces, down three and a half cents per litre from a week ago,” said Patrick de Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
By comparison, Vancouver drivers are paying the highest average price in Canada at nearly $1.65 per litre. In Ontario, pump prices hover around $1.25 in major cities.
In Alberta, de Haan said prices could dip below the one-dollar mark later this winter. Currently, Edmonton sits at about $1.19 per litre, while Calgary drivers are paying slightly less at around $1.14.
