A fresh layer of snow has blanketed Calgary, prompting an immediate and coordinated response from both municipal road crews and transit officials. A full fleet of snowplows is now working around the clock, with efforts initially prioritized on major arteries including Crowchild Trail and Glenmore Trail.
“Before and during snowfall, our crews work around the clock, preparing equipment and materials, plowing through lanes, applying anti-icing agents to potential trouble spots like bridge decks and focusing on maintaining safe conditions,” said Chris McGeachy, mobility spokesperson for the City of Calgary.
To maintain bus service and avoid delays, Calgary Transit has implemented snow detours across the entire network. Officials say activating detours city-wide simultaneously minimizes the risk of buses becoming stuck and ensures more reliable service during the storm.
The detours will remain in effect until weather and road conditions improve. Once safe to do so, they may be lifted either city-wide or gradually by quadrant. Riders are encouraged to check the Calgary Transit website or mobile app for the latest updates before traveling.
