Many regions across northern and southeastern Alberta are bracing for a surge of wintry weather beginning Monday.
Environment Canada says much of the Peace Region north of Edmonton — stretching from Grande Prairie in the west to areas near Athabasca in the east — could receive 15 to 30 centimetres of snow. Forecasters expect snowfall to continue through most of the day, with only brief breaks.
Areas south of Edmonton, including Red Deer and Medicine Hat, are under a winter storm watch that could bring heavy rain, strong winds and periods of snow heading into Tuesday.
Officials warn the approaching weather front may create hazardous travel conditions and advise residents to delay non-essential travel.
In the Rocky Mountains, strong wind gusts reaching up to 100 kilometres per hour are forecast from Banff south to the Montana border.
