Calgary–NE MLA Gurinder Brar says the recently concluded legislature session was marked by controversy and reduced debate.
Speaking on RED FM, Brar noted ongoing tensions around the conduct of MLA Marlin Schmidt and said limits placed on debates prevented full scrutiny of government bills.
He criticized the use of the notwithstanding clause and highlighted concerns over Bill 14, which grants immunity to the justice minister. Brar added that a proposal to prohibit new parties from using the word “conservative” has drawn significant pushback.
