The political party formerly known as the Alberta Party has officially rebranded as the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta, according to an announcement from leader Peter Guthrie.
Guthrie revealed the name change in a post on X Thursday evening. The MLA is currently sitting as an Independent in the Alberta legislature after being removed from the United Conservative Party caucus.
He joined the Alberta Party earlier this year with the stated intention of renaming it to reflect a Progressive Conservative identity — a move that raised concerns among some political observers over naming rights and potential voter confusion.
As of Thursday night, Elections Alberta had not yet updated its website to reflect the party’s new name.
