Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand confirmed Thursday that a Canadian citizen has died in Iran, amid ongoing unrest in the country.
In a post on social media platform X, Anand said peaceful protests by Iranians demanding their voices be heard have been met with severe repression and continued human rights violations by the Iranian regime. She accused authorities of showing a “flagrant disregard for human life” and called for an immediate end to the violence.
“This violence must end. Canada condemns the Iranian regime’s actions,” Anand wrote.
The minister also expressed her deepest condolences to the victim’s family, adding that Canadian officials are in contact with the family in Canada and are providing consular support.
