The City of Calgary has reached a new milestone in its Public Transit Safety Strategy with the opening of a new district office in the city’s northwest, bringing the total number of transit safety offices to five across Calgary.
City officials say the new office strengthens Calgary Transit’s decentralized deployment model by positioning Transit Peace Officers closer to where transit service is delivered. The approach is designed to improve response times, increase officer visibility and provide more consistent coverage throughout the transit system.
The expansion is part of a multi-year Public Transit Safety Strategy approved by City Council in October 2023, aimed at improving safety and customer confidence on buses, CTrain stations and surrounding transit areas.
Transit Peace Officers, including members of the Safety and Engagement Team, will deploy from the northwest district office to support transit stations, buses and nearby public spaces. Their work will focus on addressing safety concerns, supporting transit operators and staff, and engaging directly with riders.
City officials say the increased on-the-ground presence is intended to help create a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for everyone using Calgary’s public transit system.
