Calgary police are investigating after two people died under suspicious circumstances early Wednesday morning in the northeast community of Redstone, an area already on edge following a recent targeted shooting.
Officers were called to reports of a disturbance shortly before 12:45 a.m. When police arrived at a residence near Redstone Park, they found two individuals with critical injuries.
Despite efforts by first responders, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The second was taken to hospital, where they later died.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and have indicated there is no known risk to the public at this time.
The deaths occurred just days after a nearby home was struck by gunfire in what investigators believe was a targeted incident linked to extortion attempts within Calgary’s South Asian community. Police say a direct connection between the two cases has not yet been confirmed.
Further details are expected to be released once autopsies are completed.
