New details are emerging following the mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., that left 10 people dead — including the suspect — and approximately 25 others injured.

CTV News has confirmed the shooter has been identified as Jesse Strang. Among those killed were his mother, Jennifer Strang, and his sibling, Emmett Strang, adding another layer of tragedy to the devastating incident that has shaken the small northeastern B.C. community.

Police have not yet released further information about a possible motive as investigators continue to piece together what led to the violence.

Meanwhile, health officials say at least one critically injured patient was transported to BC Children’s Hospital following the shooting. Susan Wannamaker, executive vice-president of the hospital, confirmed the patient remains in critical condition.

“The protection of patient privacy is paramount to us, and we do not routinely share information about our patients,” Wannamaker said in a statement. “However, there are exceptional times when we need to acknowledge those who are in our care.”

She added that no further updates on the patient’s condition will be provided.

BC Children’s Hospital also confirmed it will offer youth mental health supports to the Tumbler Ridge community as residents begin the difficult process of grieving and recovery.
