For the 18th consecutive year, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is bringing together filmmakers, producers, and creative teams from across the country to create short cinematic tributes to Canadian performing arts legends. This initiative is part of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards (GGPAA) 2026, which will honour seven new laureates.

This year’s Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award recipients are Susan Benson, James Cameron, Sylvain Émard, Daniel Lavoie, and Tonya Williams. They are joined by Barbara Hannigan, who will receive the National Arts Centre Award, and Sae Hoon (Stan) Chung, honoured with the Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts.

The films are being directed by Jennifer Chiu, Dana Claxton, Tara Johns, Kevin McIntyre, and Yasmine Mathurin, and produced by Christine Aubé, Niki Little, Teri Snelgrove, and Robert Vroom at NFB production units across Canada.

The completed films will premiere at the GGPAA Show on June 6, 2026, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and will simultaneously be available online via NFB platforms and Apple TV. Following the premiere, the films will also be accessible on CBC Gem and ICI TOU.TV, allowing all Canadians to take part in this unique celebration of performing arts excellence.
