Ministry of External Affairs has strongly rejected claims that it permitted the United States Navy to use Indian ports during the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
The statement came after Douglas McGregor, a former adviser to the US secretary of defense, alleged in an interview on the far-right network One America News Network that American naval vessels may have been operating from Indian ports amid escalating tensions.
“Claims being made on OAN, a US-based channel, that Indian ports are being used by the US Navy are fake and false,” the Indian foreign ministry said in an official response. “We caution you against such baseless and fabricated comments.”
The denial comes at a sensitive time, as international scrutiny intensifies over a reported US submarine strike on an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka. The vessel had reportedly been departing from military exercises hosted by India when the incident occurred.
New Delhi has not commented directly on the submarine attack but has reiterated its longstanding position of strategic autonomy and non-alignment in foreign conflicts. Analysts say the swift rebuttal reflects India’s effort to avoid being drawn into heightened geopolitical tensions in the region.
The United States has not issued a formal statement regarding the claims aired by McGregor.
The episode underscores the growing complexity of regional security dynamics, as global powers navigate alliances and military engagements across the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East
