One year into Mark Carney’s tenure as prime minister, the federal Liberals are enjoying unprecedented popularity, according to the latest Nanos Research polling. The survey shows the Liberals at 47.6 per cent, the Conservatives at 31.1 per cent, and the NDP at 11.2 per cent.
Before Carney took over from Justin Trudeau, the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre held a double-digit lead over the Liberals, but they have trailed for months under the new leadership.
Nik Nanos, chief data scientist at Nanos Research, noted that the last time any party reached 47 per cent in the tracking was the Poilievre Conservatives in January 2025. He added that Carney’s support is now at an all-time high, with 56.5 per cent of Canadians preferring him as prime minister, compared with 22 per cent for Poilievre.
The data underscores Carney’s strong approval ratings and the Liberals’ dominant position heading into the next federal election.
