Calgary police are intensifying their efforts against a wave of extortion in the city, working closely with the Canada Border Services Agency to remove individuals linked to criminal activity. Authorities say multiple suspects are now facing removal orders from Canada.

The crackdown follows a similar action in Edmonton, where two men were deported by the CBSA for their involvement in extortion. Police confirmed that both individuals had connections to several communities, including Calgary, but cannot be publicly named due to immigration policies.

Since the start of the year, Calgary has seen 41 reported extortion incidents, 17 of which involved shootings, highlighting a growing concern for public safety.

In the course of ongoing investigations, police have submitted 45 names to the CBSA, prompting several removal orders. “We want the community to know that we are working closely with our partners to ensure public safety in Calgary,” the Calgary Police Service said in a statement Thursday.

Officials emphasized their commitment to keeping the public informed as investigations continue. “We are committed to sharing more information as our criminal investigations progress,” the statement added. Authorities continue to urge residents to report suspicious activity to help combat organized crime and protect the community.

This operation underscores a coordinated effort between law enforcement and federal immigration authorities to disrupt criminal networks in Alberta.
