Calgary police have charged two men in connection with a shooting earlier this month outside a busy northeast recreation facility.
The incident occurred on March 3, 2026, in the parking lot of the Genesis Centre in the community of Falconridge. According to police, a group of people had gathered outside the facility when they were approached by two men.
Investigators say one of the suspects allegedly produced a handgun and fired two shots at the group. One person was struck and later transported to hospital by others at the scene. The victim was reported to be in stable condition and has since recovered. Both suspects fled immediately after the shooting.
Police say that the incident was captured on security cameras at the recreation centre, which helped police identify those involved. Following an investigation, officers executed a search warrant on March 24 at a residence on Templehill Crescent N.E., where two men were arrested.
Sohrab Rob Rashed, 34, faces multiple charges, including discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and several firearm-related offences. Romal Sidiqi, 33, is also charged with discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
Police say the accused and the victim were known to each other and believe the shooting was the result of a prior conflict. Investigators added that the incident is not linked to recent extortion-related shootings in Calgary.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
