Advance voting for Calgary’s municipal election begins Monday, giving residents an early opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of election day on October 20.
Anyone unable to vote on election day—or those who’ve already made their decision—can visit any of the 42 advance polling stations set up across the city.
“We have significantly increased our voting stations,” said Kate Martin, the City of Calgary’s returning officer. “In 2017, about 75,000 people voted early during the hand-count election. That number nearly doubled in 2021, when close to 145,000 Calgarians cast their ballots during advance voting.”
Voters can find their nearest polling location using the city’s online “Where to Vote” tool. In addition to standard polling stations, ballots can also be cast at post-secondary campuses, care facilities, hospitals, and on the vote bus — a mobile polling station that travels to various locations throughout the advance voting period. A full schedule for the vote bus is available online.
To vote, residents must present one piece of government-issued identification, such as a driver’s licence.
All advance and mail-in ballots will be counted by hand after polls close at 7:30 p.m. on election day. The counting process is expected to take two days, with official results to be released at noon on October 24.
