The Alberta Teachers’ Association is calling on the United Conservative Party government to do more to address education challenges, saying the government’s priorities don’t fully align with what schools need.
ATA President Jason Schilling told CTV News on Tuesday that while the government has taken steps to improve conditions—such as introducing classroom complexity teams—these issues have been raised by teachers long before the current administration took office.
“We’ve been conducting pulse surveys with our members since 2020, repeatedly highlighting these concerns,” Schilling said. “The government only began collecting class size and composition data last fall, after a six-year gap.”
