A two-day bail hearing has been scheduled for a Calgary man accused of assisting alleged Canadian drug kingpin Ryan Wedding in orchestrating the murder of an FBI informant.

Allistair Chapman appeared in a Calgary courtroom on Friday morning, coinciding with the FBI’s announcement that Wedding had been arrested in Mexico. Chapman is seeking release while awaiting an extradition hearing, though a date for that proceeding has not yet been set.

Defence lawyer Chad Haggerty represented Chapman in court and confirmed that the bail hearing will take place on Feb. 4 and 5.

Wedding, a former Team Canada Olympic snowboarder who later became a fugitive, was previously placed on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list. Authorities had offered a $15 million reward for information leading to his capture. FBI Director Kash Patel announced Friday that Wedding was arrested late Thursday night and is being transferred from Mexico to the United States.

According to an unsealed federal grand jury indictment, Chapman is alleged to be a member of the so-called “Wedding Criminal Enterprise.” He was taken into custody in November on extradition warrants related to the case.
