Drivers in Calgary are facing another increase in fuel prices, with some stations now charging around 169.9 cents per litre, while others list slightly lower prices near $1.67 per litre.

The rise is linked to tightening global oil markets. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is currently hovering near $95 U.S. per barrel, while Western Canadian Select (WCS) has climbed to about $83 per barrel, marking a roughly 2.5 per cent increase.

Much of the upward pressure stems from instability in the Middle East, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz — a critical passage that carries about 20 per cent of the world’s oil supply.

Recent conflict involving Iran has reduced tanker traffic through the region, disrupting supply chains. Analysts warn that continued geopolitical tensions could keep fuel prices elevated in the coming weeks.
