A veteran Calgary police officer is facing criminal charges following an investigation into a series of thefts from hardware stores across Calgary and nearby areas.
The Calgary Police Service (CPS) launched the investigation earlier this month after receiving multiple reports of stolen merchandise from various hardware retailers.
Police allege that over $10,000 worth of goods were stolen over a 12-month period. The investigation led authorities to identify one of their own officers, Const.
Bradley Tepper, as the primary suspect. Tepper, a 20-year member of the CPS, has now been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000. Following the charges, he has been relieved of his duties.
In a statement, Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public trust. “When a criminal investigation involves one of our own members, it has the potential to undermine trust and confidence in our Service,” she said.
McLellan stressed that the investigation was conducted thoroughly and impartially to uphold CPS’s commitment to accountability and integrity.Const. Tepper is scheduled to appear in court in September as the legal process moves forward.
