Calgary Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a man believed to be responsible for two attempted carjackings that occurred last week in the city’s downtown area.
Police say the first incident took place on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at 1.30 p.m. in the 200 block of Ninth Avenue S.E. A woman was sitting in the driver’s seat of her parked vehicle when a man suddenly opened the door and threatened to kill her. The victim quickly fled the vehicle with her keys.
The suspect then entered the car but was unable to operate it. He exited and began approaching other vehicles in nearby traffic before leaving the area.
Approximately 45 minutes later, at 2.15 p.m., the same suspect was involved in a second incident in the 700 block of Sixth Avenue S.W. Police allege the man approached another parked vehicle, opened the driver’s door and forcibly removed the female driver before getting inside.
Once again, he was unable to drive the vehicle because the victim still had the keys. The suspect then stole the woman’s purse and fled the scene.
The suspect is described as a man between 30 and 40 years old, with light skin, short brown hair and a beard. At the time of the incidents, he was wearing a black baseball cap with a light-coloured brim, a black “Reebok” hoodie with a white triangle logo, black track pants with white accents and black sneakers.
Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incidents to come forward.
