Calgary police are requesting assistance from the public as they investigate a suspected arson that took place in the city’s southeast.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, when emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire in an alleyway behind a residence on 27 Street SE, just north of 17 Avenue SE in the Radisson Heights area.
Upon arrival, officers found a black Hyundai Kona engulfed in flames. The Calgary Fire Department was able to quickly bring the fire under control. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Investigators now believe the fire was intentionally set.
As part of their investigation, police have released images of a vehicle of interest that was seen in the area around the time of the fire. The car is described as an early 2000s orange Mazda 3, last seen driving westbound on 17 Avenue SE from 28 Street SE.
Police are urging anyone who saw suspicious activity or has dashcam footage from the area between 27 Street SE and 28 Street SE, between 15 Avenue SE and 17 Avenue SE, to come forward.
