Despite the feeling of endless rain in Calgary this summer, July 2025 won’t break any records—but it’s still among the wettest on record.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the city is expected to land in fourth or fifth place for July precipitation totals. Over the past month, Calgary has received between 150 and 175 millimetres of rain—more than double the typical July average of 66 millimetres.

“The pattern in our upper atmosphere has been drawing moisture off the Pacific for much of the month and delivering it right to our doorstep,” said Kevin Stanfield, meteorologist with 660 NewsRadio. “Over the last 30 days, Calgary’s rainfall totals have been in the 90th percentile.”

Temperatures have also been cooler than usual. This July’s average daytime high was 21.2°C, compared to the seasonal norm of 23°C. However, average overnight lows were slightly warmer—10.6°C versus the usual 9.8°C—due to persistent overnight cloud cover.

As July winds down, Calgarians can expect some summer warmth to return. Tuesday is forecast to reach 24°C, feeling like 27°C with the humidex. Wednesday and Thursday are expected to bring highs of 27°C, with humidex values making it feel closer to 30°C. Friday, August 1, will likely hit 28°C.

However, the long weekend is looking wetter. Showers are expected each day, with highs of 21°C on Saturday, 20°C on Sunday, and 19°C on Monday—all with a 60 per cent chance of rain.
