The federal government reports that the Canada Strong Pass, introduced this summer, successfully increased travel and attendance at cultural and historic destinations across the country.
Launched on June 20 and available until September 2, the Canada Strong Pass offered free admission to national museums for children and youth aged 17 and under, and a 50% discount for young adults aged 18 to 24. It also provided free access to national parks and historic sites managed by Parks Canada.
According to the Department of Canadian Heritage, initial data shows that visits to Parks Canada locations rose by 10% during the program’s run. National museums also saw a boost, with midsummer figures revealing a 15% average increase in attendance compared to the same period last year.
VIA Rail Canada also reported strong results, with over 50,000 bookings made through the Canada Strong Pass. The pass allowed children and teens (17 and under) to travel for free when accompanied by an adult, while youth aged 18 to 24 received discounted fares.
The government says the initiative aimed to make cultural and natural experiences more accessible to young Canadians and encourage travel within the country. Early results suggest the program was successful in achieving those goals.
