Canadian consumers are now eligible to receive compensation from a $500-million class-action settlement related to allegations of widespread price-fixing in the packaged bread industry.

The settlement involves Loblaw Companies Ltd. and its parent company, George Weston Ltd., and covers purchases made between January 1, 2001, and December 31, 2021. Eligible products include packaged bread, buns, rolls, bagels, naan, English muffins, wraps, pita, and tortillas bought for personal use.

The law firms Strosberg Wingfield Sasso LLP and Orr Taylor LLP announced Thursday that the claims process is officially open. Importantly, no proof of purchase is required to file a claim.

Claim forms must be submitted by December 12, 2025, and are available online. This resolution provides Canadian consumers with the monetary relief they deserve,” said Jim Orr, partner at Orr Taylor LLP.

The settlement was approved in May by Ontario Superior Court Justice Ed Morgan. Of the total amount, $404 million will be paid by Loblaw and George Weston.

The companies were accused of participating in an industry-wide conspiracy to artificially inflate the price of packaged bread products over two decades.
