Mark Carney will travel to India, Australia, and Japan from February 26 to March 7, 2026, as part of Canada’s strategy to diversify trade, attract investment, and strengthen global partnerships in an increasingly uncertain world. The visit aims to boost opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses across trade, energy, technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and defence.

In India, Prime Minister Carney will visit Mumbai and New Delhi, where he will meet with Narendra Modi. Discussions will focus on expanding trade, clean energy collaboration, advanced technologies, talent mobility, culture, and defence ties. He will also meet business leaders to encourage new investments and partnerships. India, the world’s fastest-growing major economy, was Canada’s seventh-largest trading partner in 2024, with $30.8 billion in two-way trade. Both countries are working toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to double trade to $70 billion by 2030.

In Australia, he will meet Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Sydney and Canberra to deepen cooperation on maritime security, critical minerals, advanced technologies, and trade. He will also address both Houses of Parliament — the first Canadian prime minister to do so in nearly 20 years.

In Tokyo, Carney will meet Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to strengthen collaboration in clean energy, manufacturing, food security, and Indo-Pacific security. Japan remains a key partner, with bilateral trade valued at $36.4 billion annually.
