Calgarians will see several changes to city services on Tuesday as residents mark Remembrance Day and pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed for Canada.
Calgary Transit will operate on a Saturday schedule on Nov. 11. Parking will be free in all on-street ParkPlus zones, while weekend rates will apply at city-run parkades and surface lots.
Regular rates will remain in effect at partner lots, including the Calgary Stampede, TELUS Spark, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo, and Heritage Park.
Veterans will be able to ride transit for free by showing veteran identification or wearing a uniform. Vehicles with veteran licence plates will also receive free parking in all city-managed surface lots and parkades.
The Calgary Parking Contact Centre and the Impound Lot will be closed for the day.
Road closures and ceremonies
The Field of Crosses memorial on Memorial Drive will lead to road closures between 4 Street N.E. and 10 Street N.W. from 9 a.m. to noon. The city says crews working on the Sunnyside flood barrier are coordinating with event organizers to ensure attendees can access the site and find parking.
The Calgary Highlanders’ annual Remembrance Day parade around Central Memorial Park will also result in road closures from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., including:
- 13 Avenue S.W. between 2 and 5 Street S.W.
- 12 Avenue S.W. between 2 and 4 Street S.W.
- 4 Street S.W. between 12 and 13 Avenue S.W.
More information on ongoing road closures is available on the City of Calgary’s website.
