Edmonton Riverbend MP Matt Jeneroux has crossed the floor to join the governing Liberal Party, marking the third recent instance of a Conservative MP switching allegiances.
Jeneroux’s move comes just three months after he unexpectedly announced his resignation from the House of Commons.
Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the change on social media Wednesday morning, welcoming Jeneroux to the Liberal caucus.
“I am honoured to welcome Matt Jeneroux to our caucus as the newest member of Canada’s new government,” Carney wrote on X. “Building a stronger, more resilient, and more independent country will require ambition, collaboration, and occasionally, sacrifice. I am grateful to Matt and his family that he will continue his service as a strong voice for Edmonton Riverbend in Parliament.”
This shift adds momentum to the Liberals’ ranks while highlighting ongoing changes in the country’s political landscape.
