City crews have been busy this week tackling the aftermath of Monday’s relentless rainfall, which caused widespread damage across Calgary.

Confederation Park, located in the northwest, was among the hardest hit. Several pathways were washed out, and large sections of fields were left waterlogged. The Rosemont Community Association, which runs summer camps in the park, was forced to shift its programming to other locations.

Residents who regularly use the park also found themselves rerouting to avoid the muddy mess.

Ward 7 Councillor Terry Wong says the wet weather has been a persistent issue in the park since May. Fortunately, cleanup costs are fully covered through the city’s storm water maintenance budget — similar to how snow removal is funded each winter.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, this July has been Calgary’s third-wettest on record, with 161.1 millimetres of rain recorded between July 1 and 28.
