Independent candidate Jeromy Farkas, freshly elected as Calgary’s mayor, appeared on REDFM this morning to discuss his priorities and plans following a hard-fought victory over incumbent Jyoti Gondek and other contenders.
Speaking with host Rishi, Farkas expressed gratitude to the Calgarians for their participation and support.
“Thank you to Calgarians for coming out to vote, for participating in democracy, and thank you as well to the city councilors who are retiring and Mayor Gondek for her service,” he said.
Farkas outlined his first three priorities as mayor: public safety, affordability, and community engagement.
“My first focus is to work together with the new city councilors. We have some amazing candidates from every single corner of the city. We’re going to work hard for Calgarians,” he said.
On public safety, Farkas emphasized the need to address crime and security issues promptly. On affordability, he stressed responsible spending and tax use to support local events and community needs.
Reflecting on his political journey, Farkas acknowledged the challenges of running office and expressed his appreciation for the volunteers and voters who backed him.
“Very rarely in life do you get a second chance. I was not successful in 2021, but you chose to trust me this time, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to be your next mayor. I’m going to prove you right,” he affirmed.
Farkas concluded with a message of unity and optimism, signaling a collaborative approach to leading Calgary forward.
