Canada Post says millions of children across the country who send their wish lists to Santa Claus will receive a response this year, keeping a cherished holiday tradition alive.

Last year, a month-long strike by more than 55,000 postal workers disrupted the program, preventing Santa from replying to letters. Despite the interruption, children were assured that every message sent to the North Pole was still read.

According to Canada Post spokesperson Phil Legault, more than one million letters are delivered to and from Santa Claus each year, and that number is expected to remain steady.

Under the annual Letters to Santa program, all mail addressed to the iconic HOH OHO postal code and sent by December 8 will be delivered. While exact delivery dates can’t be confirmed, Legault says Santa responds to every letter.

“It is a busy time for our postal elves,” Legault said in an email Monday. “Our employees love seeing the letters addressed to Santa Claus pass through our postal system.”

Canada Post and the union representing its mail carriers reached agreements in principle last month, following two years of contentious negotiations.

“Canada Post takes great pride in delivering more than one million letters to and from Santa each year,” Legault added. “It’s a tradition we’re honoured to support.”
