Provincial health officials have issued a public alert after a confirmed case of measles led to potential exposure at multiple transportation locations across Alberta earlier this month.
According to health authorities, individuals may have been exposed on March 10 and 11 at several sites, including Calgary International Airport’s baggage claim area, as well as multiple Cold Shot Bus Company terminals in Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, and Grande Prairie. Exposure may also have occurred on bus routes traveling between Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, and Grande Prairie during the evening and overnight hours.
Officials warn that those who were present at these locations during the specified times could be at risk, particularly individuals born in or after 1970 who have received fewer than two doses of the measles vaccine or have never had the disease.
Health authorities are urging potentially affected individuals to check their immunization records and monitor for symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, and rash. Anyone needing medical care is advised to call ahead before visiting a healthcare facility to prevent further spread.
Alberta has seen a sharp increase in measles cases, with nearly 200 confirmed so far in 2026, following more than 2,000 cases reported last year.
