A Canadian Armed Forces member deployed to Latvia has been found dead after being reported missing earlier this week.

The Department of National Defence (DND) identified the soldier as Warrant Officer George Hohl, a vehicle technician with Edmonton’s 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

Hohl, who had nearly 20 years of service, was deployed on Operation Reassurance — Canada’s contribution to the NATO Multinational Brigade-Latvia, established to deter Russian aggression in Europe.

He was reported missing Tuesday and located deceased on Friday, according to a DND statement.

Defence officials have not released details on the circumstances of his death but said there is no indication the incident poses any increased threat to deployed personnel.
