Drivers in Calgary and nearby communities are being warned to slow down and take extra care Friday afternoon as thick fog settles over the region, cutting visibility to nearly zero in some spots.
Environment Canada says visibility may drop suddenly, creating dangerous conditions on roads and highways. Fog patches are expected to linger into the evening.
Motorists are reminded to switch on headlights, reduce speed, and leave plenty of space between vehicles.
Cloudy skies with a chance of flurries and a risk of freezing drizzle are expected through Friday afternoon. Temperatures will fall to -10°C, with wind chill values making it feel more like -16 C. Light snow will taper off overnight, with 2 to 4 centimeters expected.
Saturday will remain cloudy with a daytime high near -9°C, though wind chill could push temperatures to feel closer to -18°C.
Warmer weather arrives Sunday as sunshine returns and temperatures climb to around -2°C. Clear skies will continue into the evening with an overnight low near -2°C heading into the new workweek.
